Solar Products
Solar powered water pumps have been developed by Mono for use with boreholes, wells, lakes or rivers where electric or diesel power is unavailable.
The PC helical rotor pump element used in borehole applications is proven to provide maximum water output even in bores containing silt or iron oxide, and low pump speed means extended rotor and stator life in abrasive bores.
Solar pumps feature the technically advanced GPS (Global Positioning Satellite) Tracking to ensure the solar panels are always facing the sun, overcoming problems traditionally associated with refrigerant gas driven systems and light sensor trackers.
Installation is quick and simple, and the robust and effective design ensures maintenance is minimal, enabling service or repair of the units with basic maintenance skills and little spare parts back up.
Mono solar pumps are particularly appropriate for use in Mediterranean countries and in Africa to meet the needs of rural village water supplies, livestock and irrigated agriculture.
- The PC helical rotor sweeps the full surface of the rubber stator every turn, making it impossible for growth or iron oxide deposits to develop
- Low pump speed means extended rotor and stator life in abrasive bores
- GPS sensor provides precise latitude, longitude and time (operating on GMT), enabling the controller to continuously calculate the exact position of the sun and correctly position the solar array
- Solar power is now more reliable and more cost effective than either windmills or diesel motors, and our equipment has been designed to withstand the toughest conditions while maintaining operation
- A Mono solar pump will slow down when it is cloudy, but because it has no minimum speed (unlike a centrifugal pump) it will keep delivering water
More than 1 billion people are denied the right to clean water and 2.6 billion people lack access to adequte sanitation. These statistics, taken from the 'Human Development Report 2006' by the United Nations Development Program, highlight the extent of the global water crisis. It is Mono's goal to play a part in bringing water to every human being. A huge challenge but one we feel adequately equipped to face.
Mono began installing solar pumps in 1985 and since this time we have supplied in excess of 17,000 systems. As such we have over 20 years experience of supplying pumps into some of the harshest environments in the world.
In developing countries nearly all surface water is contaminated and therefore not 'safe drinking water'. The most commonly used 'safe' water source is from underground boreholes. Some form of pump is required to remove water from a borehole.
The most common pumps used in remote communities are:
- Hand pumps
- Direct drive diesel driven borehole pumps
- Electric submersible pumps with diesel generator
- Solar submersible pumps
The advantages of a solar pumps are:
- They can produces many 1000's of litres of water every day
- The system can typically serve 10 times more people than a hand pump
- Excess capacity can be stored in an elevated tank
- Low maintenance costs
- No fuel costs
- Easy to install
- Simple and reliable
- No operator required
- Can pump to elevated storage tanks
- High flow output
- Zero carbon emissions
- 20 year life
Most irrigation projects require a pump. In remote areas there is often poor access to the electricity grid making AC pumps impractical. Diesel and petrol powered pumps are often used, however they are expensive to run. Farmers ofter run out of money to operate their pumps before the crop is ready for harvest.
Mono offer a solar drip irrigation system for small scale irrigation projects, enabling sustainable agriculture. Drip irrigation uses the least amount of water and ensures that the water source is used most effectively.
Mono can design and supply complete irrigation packages to suit any requirement. We have extensive experience with many thousands of solar pumping installations across Africa, Asia and Amercia.
- Our pump works best when the sun is shining, this is when crops require the most water
- There are no running costs
- A 150 Watt solar module can irrigate over 1000m² (¼ acre)
- Mono can supply systems up to 2400 Watts giving great design flexibility
